Is religion important?

Post by ILikeWhiteBoys on Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:41 am

I am 26 years old and have always been one of those people that needs to "find out for yourself". Like most people I was raised in a religious household and went to church a couple of times a week. I was a kid and didn't really know the importance of religion, all I knew was I was scared to go to hell. Now as an adult I realize that it is important but I wanted to experience/research what was out there for myself. Being baptist because that's how I was raised was unacceptable to me. I did a bit of research and decided to spend at least a week on one different religion. After a month and a half of this I had more questions than answers. Religion is subjective, IMO. Evil is the ultimate negative that one should be persecuted for. Not what God you worship. I am merely confused looking for answers. Buddhism seems to be a great concept or philosophy that I'd be willing to accept. There's no worship of a single entity or God and the basis revolve around karma. This stage (finding a religion) in my life has been a great journey and kind of came out of nowhere. I felt I just needed....a constant if you will. Has anyone felt like this before, like you needed to find yourself spiritually?

I never really felt the need to find myself spiritually. I always knew that things happened for a reason and that God allowed things to happen for a reason. There are days when I get upset with God...(lol) but I know the level of my spiritually. I guess thats because from the ages of from 10 to 18 I attended private/catholic school which help to reinforce my faith. btw i am not catholic, i'm pentecostal.
